AREA PROFILE: STATE UTTRAKHAND:

Uttarakhand is a state of Dev Bhoomi where the greatest and big temples of Hindu religion called Char-Dham exists. Apart from Temples the state is full of hills, forests and beautiful natural sites. Uttarakhand was formed on 9 November in 2000 as the 27th State of India carved out from the northern Uttar Pradesh. Located at the foothills of the Himalayan mountain ranges, it is largely a hilly state, having boundaries with China and Nepal in the east. On its north, it is Himachal Pradesh and South is Uttar Pradesh. It is a rich state in terms of natural resources water and forests with many glaciers, rivers, forests and snow-clad peaks and mountains. Char-Dhams, the four most sacred and revered Hindu Temples e.g. Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri are nestled in the mighty mountains. Dehradun is the capital of the state. It has almost all major climatic zones, making it amendable to a variety of commercial opportunities in horticulture, floriculture and agriculture. It has a vast potential of tourism. The state is also rich in mineral deposits like limestone, marble, rock phosphate, dolomite, magnesite, copper, gypsum etc. Due to availability of minerals there is a growth of small scale industries in the state. The people are very friendly to the pilgrimage and outsiders and happy with small assets and consumable goods. This is very brief about Uttarakhand.

DISTRICT HARIDWAR

Haridwar is a place of great importance to the Hindu people. A paradise of nature-lovers, Haridwar presents kaleidoscope of Indian culture and civilization. The district also termed as a ‘Gateway to Gods’. The followers of Lord Shiva and followers of Lord Vishnu is greatly worships in Haridwar. As per Hindu religion, King Bhagirath brought the river Ganga from heaven to earth in order to provide salvation to his ancestors. It has been said that, Lord Vishnu have his foot print on the stone that is set in the upper wall of har-Ki-Pouri where the Holy Ganga touches it all the times. The Hindu people believes that, they can go the Heaven by getting their salvation after a dip in the sacred Ganga at Haridwar.  The great Kumbh Mela organized all after 12 years and Ardh Kumbh after 6 years here which is very important for the Monks of Hindu religion. This is the hard fact relating to Haridwar. This is not only a holy place for spirituality, but also served as a center of attraction for many things like learning arts, science and culture. So Haridwar is a destination of all seasons of pilgrimages, tourists irrespective of religion and the nature lovers. The Rajaji National Park is just 10 kms from Haridwar which is a unique national park rich in wildlife species and habitat.
